The next DC Universe Batman remains uncast as Gunn explains the character’s planned place beside Superman.

DC’s next Batman still has no announced actor. James Gunn says in a GamesRadar report that casting is drawing closer, while stressing that the role is not yet filled.

His stated priority is the right performance, not simply a recognizable name. Gunn also leaves room for someone who previously held a minor role in The Suicide Squad.

The character is intended to be a contemporary of Superman. Gunn says their ages should be similar, offering a broad character direction rather than a casting shortlist.

The discussion forms part of The Suicide Squad: Is It Canon?, an official podcast special. Jennifer Holland and Steve Agee join Gunn for the episode.

According to its official listing, the program combines fan questions, production stories and messages from cast members. Its wider subject is how the film connects with DC’s shared continuity.

HBO Max’s special arrived October 30. Listeners can hear that wider conversation, but the announcement does not establish when Batman’s actor will be revealed.
