Sarah Snook is attached to a developing HBO limited series that draws on The Birds, with no premiere date announced.
Sarah Snook’s The Birds project would bring the actor back to HBO in a very different role. The network is developing a limited series inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s film and Daphne du Maurier’s original story, with Snook attached to star and executive produce.
As Variety reports, Snook would play Myra Massey, a woman returning to her hometown with her daughter. A missing friend and a series of bird attacks draw her into a mystery.
Tom Spezialy has written the pilot and will executive produce. His credits include Watchmen and The Leftovers, bringing experience in unusual television worlds to the adaptation.
The executive-producing team also includes Heyday Television’s David Heyman and Danny Samit, along with Jennifer Gabler Rawlings. HBO and Universal Global Television are the producing partners.
The project connects two earlier versions of the material: du Maurier’s 1952 story and Hitchcock’s 1963 film. The proposed limited-series format would give this new version a different scale from the feature.
Development is not a series order. The announcement establishes Snook’s involvement and the creative team, but it does not yet set a release date or confirm when audiences will see the project.
