Life can change in an instant, and Billy Spanton turns that uncertainty into something deeply personal with his new single, “Only for a Little While.” Inspired by the love of his life and the trials he has experienced along the way, the song reflects on how quickly circumstances can shift and why the moments we share with the people we love matter so much.
There is an honesty to the song that has already made an impact beyond the recording itself. When Spanton performs “Only for a Little While” live, he says there is almost always someone in the audience who becomes emotional. That reaction speaks to what sits at the heart of the song. Rather than trying to make a grand statement about love, Spanton captures the fragility of time and the importance of appreciating someone while they are still beside you.
The song began simply, written on acoustic guitar before growing into the finished recording. Spanton originally recorded it in The Poconos, Pennsylvania, laying down the foundation of a song that would eventually take on a much larger sound. His work later brought him together with UK producer Stuart Epps, whose production credits include work connected to artists such as Elton John, George Harrison, Led Zeppelin, and Oasis. For Spanton, however, the important part was what Epps brought to this particular song.
One of the most memorable moments in the recording process came unexpectedly when violin became part of the arrangement. The addition happened spontaneously, something Spanton describes as “divine intervention.” Violizzy’s violin adds another emotional layer to the track, complementing the acoustic foundation and helping the song carry the weight of its message without overwhelming it.
The central idea comes through clearly in one of the song’s standout lines: “I think that I could love you for a little or til the stars burn out or maybe just for now. Only for a Little While.” There is something striking about the uncertainty in those words. Love is not presented as something that can be guaranteed forever. Instead, Spanton acknowledges that even when the future is unknown, what we feel in the present can still be meaningful.
Released September 1, 2026, through Epps Records, “Only for a Little While” features Stuart Epps on production and Dave Reiser on engineering, with Kevin Ahern on drums, Brian Caputo on bass, Eric Dohman on piano, Renee Willoughby on backing vocals, and Violizzy on violin. Spanton is also developing a storyline video for “Midnight Desert Rose,” giving listeners another glimpse of where his music is headed next.
