Mid-City Los Angeles rapper F.Y.I. pairs boom-bap roots with a forward-looking message on his new single and official video, “Clear Skies.”

LOS ANGELES, CA — F.Y.I. is back with “Clear Skies,” a new single produced by Akili that keeps the independent MC focused on lyricism, perspective and the classic hip-hop foundation that has shaped his catalog. Released Aug. 17 through F.Y.I. Enterprises, the 2:07 track arrives as the latest step in a run that has kept the Mid-City artist active throughout 2026.

The record centers on perseverance, ambition and the clarity that can come from staying committed to a goal. Rather than treating golden-era influence as a nostalgia exercise, F.Y.I. uses the boom-bap framework as a base for music about growth, discipline and pushing toward the next level, a balance also highlighted in recent coverage from Sway’s Universe.

The official “Clear Skies” visual extends that idea with a stylized mix of retro and futuristic imagery. Dramatic lighting, effects and throwback visual cues give the video a time-capsule feel, while the presentation keeps its focus on an artist looking ahead rather than simply recreating the past.

F.Y.I.’s history in Los Angeles hip-hop stretches back to the group Those Chosen before he moved deeper into a solo career. His first solo album, Yo! The Places You’ll Go, reached No. 1 on the CMJ Hip-Hop chart, while later releases continued to develop his approach to message-driven rap and independent songwriting.

That catalog includes projects such as eLAyayvate and collaborations that connect F.Y.I. with several generations of lyric-focused rap. In 2024, he released “UUUknow” featuring Jadakiss, while earlier work includes “Dopamine” with Ab-Soul and Those Chosen. More recent records such as “S.O.E. (State of Emergency),” “Can’t Be Denied” and “Nothing’s Gonna Stop” have kept that momentum moving into 2026.

With “Clear Skies,” F.Y.I. continues building from the same qualities that have defined his independent run: sharp writing, boom-bap production and an emphasis on substance. The release also reinforces the broader direction of his music, connecting the traditions that shaped him in Los Angeles with a creative outlook aimed beyond the city and toward the next stage of his career.
