With Outdoor Shower, Ruby & Sasha introduce themselves with a debut EP built around harmony, atmosphere, and candid songwriting. The Brooklyn-based identical twins bring together four songs that explore the uncertainty of early adulthood, moving between emotional vulnerability and understated humor. The project includes “Outdoor Shower,” “Hay Fever,” and “Red Light,” alongside the unreleased “Off Switch,” creating a compact introduction to the duo’s folk-indie sound and diaristic approach.
The sisters’ intertwined vocals are one of the EP’s defining features. Having grown up singing in choirs and writing music together, Ruby & Sasha have developed an instinctive chemistry that comes through in the way their voices sit alongside one another. Their harmonies add an almost conversational quality to songs about feeling disconnected, disappointed, or uncertain about the future. Rather than relying on dramatic gestures, the duo allow the details of their writing and delivery to carry the emotional weight.
The production expands that intimacy without losing sight of it. Acoustic moments sit alongside country-folk instrumentation, with pedal steel, strings, piano, Wurlitzer, harmonica, guitars, bass, and percussion adding color throughout the four tracks. Produced, recorded, and mixed by Daniel Markus, the EP has a warm and organic character that suits the duo’s songwriting. The arrangements feel carefully layered while leaving plenty of space for the vocals to remain the focal point.
There is a refreshing lack of certainty in Outdoor Shower. Ruby & Sasha are not presenting early adulthood as a period with easy answers, but as a time filled with false starts, emotional contradictions, and unexpected moments of understanding. That perspective gives the EP its strongest quality: it feels lived in. For a debut, Outdoor Shower offers a clear introduction to Ruby & Sasha’s sound while establishing them as thoughtful songwriters with a gift for finding emotional detail in ordinary experiences.
