Joe Osgood & The Fathers of Light Share Album ‘Songs From The Sun’

Joe Osgood & The Fathers of Light made Songs From The Sun as a live band, with two drummers sharing the stool and an Empire of the Sun cover reclaimed for the stage.

Joe Osgood wrote “All You Good People” spontaneously during a 10-minute band rehearsal, and it now opens Songs From The Sun, the album by Joe Osgood & The Fathers of Light that has been out since 18 September 2026.

It happened twice. “Electric Rooms” also took Osgood 10 minutes, sparked by a chance encounter at the Electric House in Notting Hill. That is the best way into this record: as the work of a live band, written with the room in mind and the room still in it.

So, who was in it? Graham Prior on lead guitar. Prior has stood on the stage of London’s Royal Albert Hall alongside Kenney Jones, Paul Weller and Pete Townshend. Sam Bunting holds down bass throughout. The drum stool is shared. Mantu, a founding member of the pioneering collective Transglobal Underground, plays on “All You Good People” and four others, while Dean McCormick takes the remaining six, “Electric Rooms” among them. It reads as a band confident enough to pass the sticks around.

Osgood himself has done his apprenticeship in front of other people’s crowds, supporting Badly Drawn Boy and The Faces.

The cover is the boldest move. Empire of the Sun’s “We Are The People” is an electronic dance anthem, and they turn it into a rock song without apology. Choosing a song built for a club and claiming it for a stage says plenty about where this group feels most at home.

Two tracks have already earned their keep on the road. “Never Believers” has been a live staple for a long time, reimagined here for the full band, and it sits second on the album as if it has been waiting its turn for years. “Make You Dance”, co-written with Chris Jenkin, is a high-impact live favourite too.

People reach for The War on Drugs, Future Islands and The Verve when describing them. If they play near you, go.
