Miguel says racist harassment aimed at his partner Margaret Zhang and abusive remarks about their child have crossed a line, warning that action is being taken where legal or ethical boundaries were breached.
Miguel is speaking out about what he describes as a sustained pattern of racism, harassment, stalking, privacy invasions and false allegations targeting his family. In a statement shared Friday, Aug. 28, the R&B singer said recent racist and anti-Asian attacks against Zhang, including comments and direct messages, were part of conduct that had gone beyond ordinary public criticism.
“Recent racist and anti-Asian attacks directed at my partner – including comments and DMs, as well as abusive comments about my child – crossed a line that should require no explanation,” Miguel wrote. He added that while he accepts opinions about himself and his music, “racism, threats, harassment, stalking, invasions of privacy, and targeting of children are abuse. not opinion.”
The Grammy winner also pushed back on attempts to frame that behavior as fandom, speculation or concern. According to Miguel, responsibility extends to organizations and individuals that knowingly amplify racism, harassment or false allegations for attention and engagement, and he told anyone participating in such behavior that they are not supporting him or part of his community.
Miguel closed the statement with a warning that consequences may follow. “Where legal and ethical lines have been crossed, action has been and will continue to be taken,” he said, before thanking people who have treated his family with kindness and respect. Rolling Stone also reported that the statement addressed more than a year of alleged harassment involving Miguel, Zhang and their child.
The comments arrive as Miguel and Zhang prepare to expand their family. Zhang, a filmmaker and former Vogue China editor-in-chief, appeared alongside Miguel at the HollyShorts Film Festival in Los Angeles in August with a visible baby bump, following the couple’s earlier revelation that they had quietly welcomed their first child in 2024.
Miguel has generally kept his family life private, but he has spoken publicly when addressing speculation about the timeline of his relationship with Zhang. His latest message draws a clear boundary between commentary about his public career and conduct directed at his partner or children, while signaling that he intends to protect that boundary as his family remains in the spotlight.
