A Poison Ivy series is in development for HBO, with The Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc in talks to produce, according to TheWrap.

Variety confirmed the project on October 22, putting another Batman character at the center of a potential HBO series. It remains in development, not an ordered production with a scheduled premiere.

TheWrap’s October 21 report says LeFranc is in talks to serve as a producer, with no writers attached. The outlet also reports that the potential show would not be part of Matt Reeves’ Batman universe.

HBO’s original materials for The Penguin identify LeFranc as writer, showrunner and executive producer of that eight-episode limited series, which debuted in September 2024. Starring Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb, it continued the world of Matt Reeves’ The Batman, establishing her experience with an earlier Gotham-centered television story.

Poison Ivy has been part of DC history since Batman No. 181 in 1966, with the publisher’s official character profile emphasizing her control over plant life and immunity to toxins. Her environmental mission and willingness to harm people place her in a very different thematic space from a conventional Gotham crime boss, offering possibilities rather than a confirmed television plot.

The character also has an established television history, including live-action incarnations on Gotham and Bridget Regan’s version on Batwoman. DC’s own casting coverage also identifies Lake Bell as Ivy’s voice in the animated Harley Quinn, illustrating how differently the character has already been approached without naming any of those actors for this project.

According to TheWrap, the project would fall under LeFranc’s two-year overall deal with HBO, but the network has not greenlit it. Neither report identifies a performer or a premiere date, leaving the proposed series without an announced cast or release schedule.
