mars kumari’s collaboration with Del the Funky Homosapien brings an expansive underground cast into a concise project about loss, danger and the unknown.

A seven-song record can still accommodate a large creative community. Skeletor Bag, the collaboration between mars kumari and Del the Funky Homosapien, gathers distinctive rappers and producers around a central partnership rooted in the Bay Area. Released on September 25, 2026, through Oakland’s Handsmade Collective, the project pairs Del’s storytelling with mars’ approach to cloud rap, industrial music, jungle and ambient production.

mars brings a different history to the same collaboration. The Bay Area beatmaker works with analog equipment and draws on hauntology, with connections to Handsmade, Bruiser Brigade and Deadverse. Writing about her production more broadly, critic Dylan Green has called it “maximal, enveloping waves of synthetic rhythm”; her interest in hip-hop, jungle and drum’n’bass gives this partnership a background that extends beyond a single rap tradition.

Behind those performances, the credits identify Del as the writer and mars as the producer, with Umamifunk sharing production duties on “Precipice” and “Known Opulence”. Executive production comes from Handsmade, Kelan Thomas and Umamifunk, with mastering by Steel Tipped Dove. The working relationship between Umamifunk and mars also extends beyond the studio: the two opened for Ghais Guevara in July.

Each part of the guest roster has a specific place in that structure. “Land of the Lost” features QThree, Baslonious.Funk and Lord Takim, while Acid Barbie appears on “Mode of Survival.” Jay Cinema, Oddity and doseone join “Mirror,” and Fatboi Sharif and Skull the Starchild feature on “Known Opulence,” giving the closing stretch a particularly broad collaborative presence.

“Seventh Ring” led the release, while “Game Over” features Jel, whose connection to Anticon adds another point of contact with left-field hip-hop. The tracklist runs from “Precipice” through “Seventh Ring,” “Land of the Lost,” “Game Over,” “Mode of Survival” and “Mirror” before closing with “Known Opulence.” Rather than stretching the concept across a long tracklist, the collaborators keep it within seven songs.

The album’s world is shaped by both emotional instability and surreal scenarios. Grief, loss and fractured confidence in people close to you sit alongside threats that range from contaminated drinking water to a video-game session turning into a monster-filled Backrooms maze. Its environmental imagery includes runoff from excessive coal burning, placing a tangible real-world danger beside a fantasy of being trapped somewhere unfamiliar.

That combination is a natural meeting point for the two collaborators’ interests. Del’s catalog already stretches across the Oakland identity of Hieroglyphics, the enduring “Mistadobalina,” the futuristic scope of Deltron 3030’s debut and his Gorillaz appearances on “Clint Eastwood,” “Rock the House” and “Captain Chicken.” More than 30 years into his career, he remains involved in new work while appearing with Deltron 3030 on Gorillaz’s 2026 The Mountain Tour, whose itinerary includes Oakland Arena on October 28.

Listeners can find Skeletor Bag on its official Bandcamp page, while the Handsmade store is taking vinyl preorders for a stated pressing of 222 copies, with shipping currently expected in late December. Built around two artists with distinct backgrounds and supported by a wider network of collaborators, the project offers a focused introduction to the creative circle that brought it together.
