thandiwe Shares Soulful Wisdom in New Single "Advice"

thandiwe, one half of the acclaimed Hip-Hop/Soul duo OSHUN, releases her latest single advice on August 1st, 2025. This soulful blend of R&B and Neo-Soul is a heartfelt ode to the lessons learned through life’s trials and the guiding light of maternal wisdom. With a sound that feels both timeless and innovative, thandiwe invites listeners into a nurturing space where struggles are met with hope and resilience.

The creation of advice is a story of family. Struggling with writer’s block, thandiwe booked a session at a studio in Brooklyn, determined to break through. Her mother, with no background in music production, drove her to the studio and stayed to ensure she was settled. In a spontaneous moment, thandiwe asked her mom to do a quick mic check in the booth. As her mother spoke, her words of maternal advice flowed naturally, sparking inspiration. thandiwe hit record, capturing those raw, heartfelt vocals, some of which found their way into the final track. The magic continued when her mother stepped in to help shoot the single’s cover art in her grandmother’s backyard, snapping the perfect iPhone photo that became the song’s vibrant visual.

advice is a beacon of guidance. thandiwe weaves lessons learned the hard way, echoing her mother’s wisdom to trust that life’s challenges will resolve. The track wraps listeners in a warm embrace, encouraging them to feel supported and motivated, no matter the obstacles. Its soulful melodies and introspective lyrics reflect thandiwe’s signature style: nostalgic yet fresh, rooted in tradition yet forward-looking.

Thandiwe’s new single advice is a masterclass in soulful storytelling, blending the warmth of Neo-Soul with the emotional depth of R\&B to create a track that feels both intimate and timeless. With her signature grace, she transforms personal reflection into a universal message of hope and resilience, offering listeners a song that not only soothes but also inspires. Her vocals are rich and emotive, layered over production that strikes the perfect balance between classic soul textures and modern elegance. What truly sets advice apart is its authenticity — every note and lyric resonates with honesty, drawing listeners into a space where vulnerability becomes strength. This release not only reaffirms Thandiwe’s artistry but positions her as a leading voice in contemporary soul music, capable of crafting music that lingers long after the last note fades.

Hailing from Silver Spring, MD, and seasoned by a decade in Brooklyn, thandiwe’s musical journey is one of deep connection and evolution. As part of OSHUN, she has toured with Ms. Lauryn Hill, collaborated with artists like Black Thought and Jorja Smith, and performed at festivals like Afropunk and Glastonbury. Her solo career took flight with the beloved EP in October 2024, followed by the single chocolate in February 2025, which earned praise from Earmilk and Wonderland. Working with Grammy-nominated producer Que Soul and engineer Ben Thomas, thandiwe crafts music that honors the legacy of Soul while pushing its boundaries.

Drawing from neo-soul icons like Erykah Badu and Jill Scott, as well as the innovative spirit of Kendrick Lamar and A Tribe Called Quest, thandiwe describes her music as nurturing, a bridge between ancestral memory and modern innovation. Her role as a priestess of Traditional African Spirituality, deepened by her recent move to Osogbo, Nigeria, infuses her work with healing energy. Every note she sings is a prayer, a story, a thread in the fabric of Black American culture, designed to cleanse doubt and inspire resilience.

Reflecting on her journey, thandiwe shares a standout moment: an intimate acoustic performance in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, at Casa Somovimento in January 2025. There, she blended songs from beloved EP with traditional Orisa chants, creating a spiritually and musically transformative experience. Looking ahead, thandiwe is in a prolific creative phase, recording daily and hinting at a mixtape in 2026 that will further explore her evolving sound.
