The Weeknd brings Faye Wong’s “Monsoon” into a new single inspired by Hong Kong’s music and cinema.

The Weeknd has released “Hong Kong,” turning a moment from his stadium tour into a tribute to the city. The October 31 single incorporates Faye Wong’s 1993 Cantopop recording “Monsoon,” bringing her original Cantonese vocals into his new song.

He first performed the track at Kai Tak Stadium on October 24, during the opening night of his four-show Hong Kong run. That introduction gave the local audience the first encounter with a recording rooted in the region’s musical history.

The release credits list The Weeknd, Oscar Holter and Sage Skolfield as producers. Its songwriting credits include Abel Tesfaye, Chen Xiaoxia, Yang Lide and Poon Yuen-leung, reflecting the connection between the new recording and the composition it draws from.

The single’s connection to Hong Kong extends beyond its title. Universal Music’s release announcement links the song to his appreciation for Cantopop and Wong Kar-wai’s films, placing it within a broader interest in the city’s music and cinema.

The release’s artwork uses a Hong Kong photograph from cinematographer Christopher Doyle’s personal collection. Doyle worked on Wong Kar-wai’s Chungking Express, which starred Faye Wong and Tony Leung, adding another connection between the single’s musical source and its visual world.

“Hong Kong” runs just over three and a half minutes and is released through XO and Republic Records, with the initial streaming release focused on East and Southeast Asia. Its arrival coincides with the closing stretch of the After Hours Til Dawn Stadium Tour, with Kuala Lumpur performances scheduled for November 4 and 5.
