Strascha was on a tram in Sofia, wondering whether to cancel her place at the camp. She was due at a songwriting camp at Sound Ninja Collective that day, and she had very nearly talked herself out of it. A friendship that mattered to her had just ended. Her responsibilities felt endless. She was sad and overwhelmed and in no state, she thought, to sit in a room and make something.
She stayed on the tram. That decision is the reason hack exists.
What happened next moved quickly. She arrived knowing what she wanted the song to be, and producer Isaak Enchev, someone she had met but never worked with, built that idea out at a pace she still sounds slightly astonished by. Alexander Hristov was a complete stranger when the session began. By the end of it he had played the song’s guitar solo, recording it in a single take. Strascha did her own vocals the same way, in one take, then went back to add the doubles. Within six hours at most the song was essentially finished. A day she had nearly skipped ended with something she could not have planned.
There is a small coda to the story. Dimitar Ganchev, a renowned Bulgarian mix engineer who was passing through the studio by chance, suggested putting cymbals in the low end, which seemed odd advice for a song that was already loud. It turned out to be the final touch.
Part of what makes hack worth telling you about is how neatly it fits the idea behind her name. Strascha comes from strah, the Bulgarian for fear, and the whole project rests on befriending that feeling rather than outrunning it. A song pulled out of a day she almost skipped is about as clear a statement of that as you could ask for. The pain did not get tidied away first. It went straight into the work, and the work is better for it.
Strascha has not cooled on it since. “Hack became my favorite song from the moment that I wrote it and I think it still is definitely in my all time favorite songs I’ve written.”
The single, released 18 September 2026, is out now. A small grant from a local music organisation is helping fund a music video for it. After that she has girl’s girl, a single with a more traditional hip hop sound, planned for the autumn.
