Mary J. Blige has partnered with Primary Wave on a deal encompassing her music publishing and recorded catalog.
Mary J. Blige is taking a new step in the stewardship of the songs that established her as the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul. Primary Wave announced its catalog partnership with the singer on October 26, bringing together recording and publishing interests alongside plans to develop further opportunities for the music.
The company’s announcement identifies songs including “Family Affair,” “My Life,” “Be Happy” and “Be Without You.” The scope reaches across different periods of Blige’s career rather than centering on a single album or one signature hit.
Primary Wave’s role includes marketing, digital strategy, branding and synchronization support. Those are the areas that can connect existing songs with new audiences and new uses, while the partnership also includes marketing resources for Blige’s new music rather than focusing exclusively on older recordings.
Financial terms have not been disclosed. Reporting on the agreement has not established a sale price or the specific ownership percentage involved, so the announcement should not be read as confirmation of a complete catalog sale or a stated valuation.
The business development follows another expansion of Blige’s live career. Her first Las Vegas residency, My Life, My Story, opened at Dolby Live at Park MGM in May, with the production built around the personal history and music that have kept her audience connected across generations.
Blige’s broader body of work includes 15 studio albums, nine Grammy wins and a 2024 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The new agreement makes catalog development and future releases part of the same ongoing conversation, as she continues performing the songs that give the partnership its foundation.
