Why Another tracked The Color Is Off live in the room together

Why Another pair a 12-string guitar and Grizzly Bear-worthy harmonies on the EP The Color Is Off, five direct songs about belonging that end with "you'll do just fine."

A sun-dappled wash of alternative rock, Grizzly Bear-worthy harmonies and Radiohead-esque melodic structures greet you upon listening to Why Another’s new EP, The Color Is Off. The psychedelic rock outfit brings their world of grooves, hooks, and big choruses to life on their 23 October 2026 release. The five tracks on The Color Is Off are more direct than the group’s previous offerings, while keeping the emotional weight. True to form, the band tracked the record live in the room with one another. The aim was to keep the interaction and energy from their live show. The group also leans into a 12-string guitar on the record, some unusual percussion, and unplanned textures that arose in the recording process.

“Life Distraction” captures the feeling of being out of step with everyone and everything: missing social cues, facing rejection, and feeling that you don’t belong. The song embraces the idea of moving forward, even without a clear sense of where you fit.

“Abundance” is an internal dialogue. There’s a recognition of destructive patterns that are difficult to break, a feeling of drifting through life unseen like a ghost, and a fear of both growing and staying the same.

“Moonrise” is another instance where Why Another catch a fleeting but deeply human thought: the realization, at the doorway of home, of the unknown just beyond it and the weight of choosing between what you know and what you don’t. It turns into a late-night thought of weighing whether to stay or to go.

“Until I Get Old” explores the challenge of forming your own values while facing external pressure to conform to someone else’s beliefs. There’s an awareness that you often react before taking the time to reflect. The song resists the mold that others try to force upon you.

The title track, The Color Is Off, is the fulcrum of the EP. It speaks to the process of building and rebuilding trust in your own intuition. There are moments, whether real or imagined, that challenge your sense of right and wrong, testing whether something is truly real or just a distortion. Fragmented and dreamlike, it ties all the ideas from the previous songs together.

The song’s final line, “you’ll do just fine,” offers reassurance without resolution. A storm is on the horizon, and the challenge is to trust yourself enough to face whatever comes.
