Jae Stephens pairs vulnerability with swagger on “I Miss the City” and “Gymnastics,” two sharply different previews of her debut album AUDACITY.

Jae Stephens has released “I Miss the City” and “Gymnastics,” a double single from her upcoming debut album AUDACITY. The two tracks arrived September 1 via Raedio and Def Jam Recordings after debuting with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, giving listeners another look at the contrasting moods Stephens is bringing to the project.

“I Miss the City” takes the more reflective route, with Stephens singing about feeling boxed in by a relationship and longing for the spontaneity of being out in the city. Produced by MNEK, the track uses airy, restrained production to underline that sense of restlessness and emotional distance.

“Gymnastics” flips the perspective with a more playful, self-aware attitude. Produced by Dallas Caton, the song finds Stephens embracing her avoidant side rather than apologizing for it, turning relationship evasiveness into a punchy pop hook with a sharper sense of humor.

The songs serve as tracks five and eleven on AUDACITY, which is set for release on September 25. uDiscover Music detailed the double release as the latest preview of the album, following earlier singles including “Sugar Trap” and “Attaboy!”

Together, “I Miss the City” and “Gymnastics” underline the duality at the center of Stephens’ new era, balancing introspection with confidence and emotional tension with a more carefree pop edge. With AUDACITY arriving later this month, the pair gives the album rollout another distinct push before its full release.
