Komorebi Releases Dynamic New alt-pop Single ‘No Deal’

Following a busy year featuring on the soundtrack to Netflix’s ‘Dabba Cartel’ and releasing a live rendition of her hit ‘The Fall’, Komorebi is back with the release of her latest single, ‘No Deal’. Released just before Komorebi embarks on a tour of Canada and India, it’s a vibrant blend of pop and alternative, looking to establish Komorebi as a colourful, fast-rising icon who is breaking down barriers in the industry.

‘No Deal’ sees Komorebi push forward with her most expansive single yet. Taking confidence from her trademark indie meets alternative sound, she elevates her songwriting with a hint of the finesse of R&B and the swagger of trip-hop and electronic to produce a sound that feels just as vivid as it does empowering. The track comes laced with storytelling about growing up in a broken home, its lyricism bursting with power, its choruses exploding with hypnotic and harrowing synthesis. Clocking in at just over four minutes, the release looks to extrapolate Komorebi’s artistry, taking the listener on a journey of fierce emotion.

“Cause when you left, I felt a gap that no one could ever fill

The damage is so bad, I just can’t swallow the pill

That you never really existed, no, you weren’t even real

Now I can’t even articulate the pain that I feel.

No deal.”

The haunting music video and cover artwork for ‘No Deal’ were done by one of India’s premier visual artists, Parizad D, who is known for merging contemporary art with music and technology to create immersive cross-genre experiences. Both artists rummaged through old letters and baby pictures, finally choosing ‘crows’, ‘rain,’ and ‘liminal spaces’ along with childhood trinkets as powerful visual cues to relay themes of transformation and spiritual guidance.

“It was excruciating to write it, but healing to listen. I hope this song heals others too. It’s important to sing about our lives authentically.”

Komorebi, the musical project of Canadian-Indian singer-songwriter Tarana Marwah, is a prominent figure in India’s indie alt-pop scene. Combining fierce songwriting with cutting-edge electronic production, her sound is paired with innovative visualisations and artistic conceptualism. A 2023 Spotify Global RADAR Artist and named an Apple UP NEXT Artist, Komorebi has gained numerous awards, such as Indian Music Diaries ‘Album of the Year’ and Best Artist nomination at the 2019 NTV Europe Music Awards. Her album ‘The Fall’ established the benchmark for India’s first music video created with Virtual Production using Unreal Engine, along with a graphic novel. In 2025, her track ‘Bayo’ received a Cannes Lion Award.

Komorebi has toured extensively around India and played on foreign stages at festivals like Lollapalooza, SXSW, Focus Wales, and Treefort. She’s also opened for artists such as Khruangbin, Squid, and Anoushka Shankar. Alongside her solo work, she has featured in Netflix and Amazon Prime productions, including the likes of ‘Made in Heaven’, ‘Modern Love’, and Berlinale 2023-nominated ‘Dahaad’. She has been featured in publications like Paste, Rolling Stone, ELLE, and BBC Radio.
