The New York hip-hop radio pioneer plans a four-hour farewell set while continuing to DJ at events.
Kool DJ Red Alert is preparing to close his radio chapter with one last broadcast on November 30. The veteran New York DJ announced a four-hour farewell set on 107.5 WBLS after more than four decades on the air.
He will continue DJing at events after leaving radio, Complex reported.
The timing brings together several milestones. Red Alert has marked 50 years as a DJ in 2026, and his 70th birthday falls later this month.
Before the final mix, the Red Alert Experience Gala is scheduled for November 24 at Sony Hall in New York. The venue lists Teddy Riley, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Kid Capri and DJ Brucie B among the special guests.
Raised in Harlem, Red Alert developed his style after attending parties by early hip-hop DJs. His path later led to KISS-FM, as artist Sherwin Banfield’s account of his career recalls.
Banfield recognized that contribution with a musical sculpture displayed at Montefiore Square in 2024. For listeners who grew up with his mixes, the November 30 broadcast offers a final appointment with his radio show before the music moves to other settings.
