Meet Sunswerver, the U.K.-based duo proving that alt-metal doesn’t have to stick to the script. Formed by longtime collaborators Davey and Al, Sunswerver blends crushing riffs, haunting melodies, and a splash of unexpected influences—think Faith No More meets Alice in Chains with a pinch of Duran Duran’s flair. The result? A sound that’s as bold as it is addictive.
Sunswerver’s story began in 2022, but their creative roots go way back. Davey and Al first crossed paths in senior school and reconnected later to tour the U.K. in previous musical projects. When the pandemic brought everything to a standstill, they took a step back—but not for long.
“We started writing again just to see if we still had it,” Al explains. “Turns out, we never lost it. The songs started flowing, and before we knew it, we had an album.”
That album, Mantras, is a self-produced testament to their shared chemistry and spontaneous approach to music-making.
What makes Sunswerver stand out? It’s all about living in the moment. “We didn’t bring pre-written ideas into the studio,” Davey says. “Every track was born on the spot, capturing exactly where we were mentally and creatively at that time.”
This organic process led to some unexpected breakthroughs. Case in point: their single Nothing Changes. Originally intended as a quick 3:50 filler track to balance a vinyl release, the song quickly became the centerpiece of Mantras. “It was supposed to be simple,” Al laughs. “Instead, it ended up setting the tone for the whole album.”
Sunswerver’s music is a rollercoaster of heavy riffs, dynamic shifts, and melodies that stay with you long after the last note fades. It’s music that dares to mix genres, drawing from alt-metal, hard rock, grunge, and even a touch of urban edge.
