Noble Hops Confront the Cost of Escape on “Thinkin’ (‘Bout Drinkin’)”

Noble Hops examine alcohol, regret and a relationship’s collapse on “Thinkin’ (‘Bout Drinkin’),” released October 10.

The Pittsburgh-area band’s latest single follows a narrator whose drinking becomes harder to separate from the problems he wants to escape.

Noble Hops take a familiar rock-song subject somewhere less celebratory on “Thinkin’ (‘Bout Drinkin’)”, released October 10, 2026. The single follows alcohol’s effect on a narrator’s judgment and relationship, placing the consequences of excess at the center of the story.

The song began nearly two decades ago with frontman Utah Burgess and his former B.U.M. bandmate Marty Roppolo. Burgess wrote the music, and the pair shared the lyrics, giving Noble Hops a piece of material with a long history behind its current release.

Its central idea is a cycle: drinking to avoid difficult thoughts, then finding that drinking has created more to reckon with. The narrative moves from lost restraint to a broken relationship, without resolving the damage through a convenient reunion.

Burgess handles vocals and electric rhythm guitar, with Tony Villella on rhythm and lead guitar, Johnny “Sleeves” Costa on bass, and Brad Hurlburt on drums. The recording was made at Rattle Clack Studio, where Jazz Byers engineered, produced, mixed and mastered the single, with Burgess as co-producer.

For a band whose catalog also includes “Music Man,” the new track brings its storytelling toward a more troubled personal situation. The focus stays on what the narrator loses as his attempt to escape becomes another source of pain.

“Thinkin’ (‘Bout Drinkin’)” is available to stream on Spotify. Its title sets up the contradiction that drives the song: thinking about the next drink while trying not to think about what has already happened.
