A behind-the-scenes look at Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan’s “Expectations” video puts its drawings, animation and deliberately old-fashioned screen effects in focus.

Olivia Rodrigo’s official fan account, LiviesHQ, shared footage explaining how the video’s retro graphics were built. As Creative Bloq reported on October 23, the clip highlights hand-drawn characters, 2D and 3D animation, and analog television screens.

The finished video sends Rodrigo and Chappell Roan into a game-show setting, with David Byrne appearing as the host. The accompanying production reel invites a closer look.

The roughness was part of the design. Creative Bloq describes sketches, digital animation in progress and an analog-screen treatment that helped create the graphics’ lo-fi appearance, rather than treating every unusual texture as an accidental flaw.

Showing the process gives viewers something concrete to examine. A finished frame and the work used to build it answer different questions; the latter helps explain choices that may otherwise look puzzling.

Universal Music’s release announcement credits Bardia Zeinali as the video’s director and Daniel Nigro as the remix’s producer. It identifies the collaboration as Roan’s first feature, bringing the singers together on a new version of a song from Rodrigo’s third album.

The process clip offers a different way into a release already connected to Rodrigo’s return to the Billboard 200 summit. Watching the behind-the-scenes footage beside the finished video makes the artists’ visual choices easier to follow, while keeping the music and the people making its images at the center.
