Whitney Peak is joining Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler in Universal’s Miami Vice ’85, adding another rising star to Joseph Kosinski’s big-screen revival.

Whitney Peak has joined the cast of Miami Vice ’85, Universal’s new take on the classic crime series starring Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler. According to Deadline, Peak is set for the female lead opposite Jordan, who will play undercover detective Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs.

The role is expected to place Peak closely alongside Jordan’s Tubbs as the film expands its ensemble around the franchise’s central detective duo. Butler is starring as James “Sonny” Crockett, while Alden Ehrenreich has also joined the cast as Universal continues assembling the project ahead of production.

Joseph Kosinski, whose credits include Top Gun: Maverick and F1, is directing the film and producing alongside Dylan Clark. The screenplay is by Dan Gilroy, working from an earlier draft by Eric Warren Singer, with the story drawing inspiration from the original television show’s pilot and first season.

The new movie will return the property to its mid-1980s setting, with the story centered on the glamour, crime and corruption that defined the Miami Vice world. Jordan and Butler are taking over the roles originally played by Philip Michael Thomas and Don Johnson in the NBC series, which ran from 1984 to 1989.

Peak’s casting adds another major studio project to her growing résumé. The 23-year-old actress broke out through HBO Max’s Gossip Girl reboot and later appeared in Hocus Pocus 2, while she is also set to play Lenore Dove Baird in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

Miami Vice ’85 is currently scheduled to hit theaters on May 19, 2028, with production expected to begin in 2026. The film will also be shot for IMAX, positioning Kosinski’s reboot as a large-scale theatrical return for a franchise that was previously adapted for the big screen by Michael Mann in 2006.
