Giant and the Georges wrote their new single in Australia after a breakup

Sam George's heartbreak abroad became 'Happy Hour', a wistful Giant and the Georges single recorded with Liam Radburn at the Magic Garden studio where Robert Plant once worked.

Named BBC Introducing’s “Artist of the Week” and having featured their music in the BBC drama “Phoenix Rise”, Giant and the Georges are still winning round new fans on the UK indie scene. They’ve toured the country, played sell-out shows, major festivals and iconic venues, such as the Cavern Club, Liverpool, and the Dublin Castle, Camden, but their latest single, “Happy Hour”, proves that they’re not slowing down anytime soon.

Written by Sam George, performed by Giant and the Georges and produced by Liam Radburn, “Happy Hour” is a sad and wistful song that looks back on a lost love, capturing a strong sense of longing, nostalgia, and even some hope. The song was written on a trip to Australia following a breakup, and it perfectly captures the feeling of having everything yet feeling empty inside. The lead guitar and vocal harmonies create a warm, upbeat feel, capturing the paradox of enjoying the moment while reminiscing about the past.

This latest release marks a return to working with producer Liam Radburn at the Magic Garden Recording Studio, a place where legendary acts, including Robert Plant, The Twang, Editors, The Sherlocks and The Blinders have recorded. It’s fitting that Giant and the Georges have chosen to follow in the footsteps of such influential artists, given their own unique sound and undeniable talent.

Giant and the Georges have become known for their captivating live performances and their ability to craft infectious indie-rock songs complete with killer hooks, riffs, vocal harmonies and lyrics that leave a lasting impression. With “Happy Hour”, they continue to push the boundaries of their sound, creating a song that is not only musically rich but also emotionally resonant.
