Independent film company Will Do Films, LLC, has announced its newest project, Jury of Her Peers, which is now in production and inspired by a real-life unsolved murder case from early 1900s Iowa. Directed by William Rock and produced by Amy Nigg, this true-crime drama is more than just a mystery; it’s a window into the social dynamics and personal struggles of a bygone era. Set for release in 2025, Jury of Her Peers promises to keep alive an essential piece of American history while examining themes that still resonate today.

At the heart of the film are two compelling characters, Dora Hale and Margaret Wright, portrayed by Stephanie Schneider and Brianne Magel, respectively. Their journey through trust, betrayal, and loyalty unfolds against the stark backdrop of rural Iowa, a setting that amplifies the suspense and isolation integral to this haunting tale. As Margaret finds herself accused of her husband’s brutal murder, Dora—a loyal friend—vows to uncover the truth, even as her investigation threatens to reveal secrets she may not be ready to face. Cheyenne Goode joins the cast as Eliza Peters, the sheriff’s wife and Dora’s sister, adding a layer of family tension and conflict that raises the stakes.

Drawing inspiration from Susan Glaspell’s pioneering work, director and screenwriter William Rock transforms this historical story into a modern meditation on justice and human complexity. Glaspell’s original story has long been recognized for its incisive look into the moral dilemmas faced by women in early 20th-century America, and Rock’s adaptation honors this legacy. Through Jury of Her Peers, Will Do Films, LLC aims to spark reflection on the weight of family loyalty, the cost of secrets, and the timeless nature of justice. The film’s setting in early 1900s Iowa immerses viewers in a time when social expectations often dictated personal choices, and individuals faced moral questions in the shadows of close-knit communities.

The cinematography captures the sweeping, often foreboding Midwestern landscape, making it an integral part of the story. This rural setting isn’t just a background—it’s a character in itself, reflecting the solitude and tension faced by the film’s protagonists. This historical environment provides a poignant contrast to the universal themes explored, reminding us that while the backdrop may be historical, the human dilemmas remain as relevant as ever.

“Jury of Her Peers brings a vital piece of Midwestern history to life. By connecting modern audiences with the past, we’re exploring what justice, loyalty, and friendship mean when the stakes are life-altering.” The film’s commitment to historical accuracy and emotional depth aims to preserve an often-overlooked part of American heritage, capturing the unique struggles and resilience of women navigating their place in an unforgiving world.

The Jury of Her Peers teaser trailer offers a first glimpse into this intense story of justice and betrayal. Viewers can find it here.
