Wardrobe Malfunction continue to carve out an unconventional space with “Made 2,” a vibrant new single that distils the five-piece’s genre-fluid approach into an ambitious, melody-led statement. Emerging from spontaneous one-take experiments between multi-instrumentalists Wes Jensen and Maggie Merrifield in 2020, the project has evolved through psychedelic bedroom pop, imagined film scores and trash-thrash into a fully formed band, now completed by Duncan Ward, Griffin Houck and Doug Brite.
“Made 2” moves between psychedelic rock, funk-jazz and exploratory indie pop, with intricate musicianship balanced by an immediately accessible melodic core. Influences from Crumb and Kikagaku Moyo sit alongside a Beatles-inspired instinct for melody, while the arrangement develops through shifting rhythms, including a distinctive 6/8 passage that gives the later solo and chorus additional momentum. Rather than treating experimentation as an end in itself, Wardrobe Malfunction use it to expand the song’s structure and sonic palette.
The track also carries a clear emotional purpose, functioning as a tribute to the relationships and community surrounding the band. That sense of connection gives “Made 2” weight beneath its playful, psychedelic surface, reinforcing Wardrobe Malfunction’s ability to pair adventurous arrangements with genuine songwriting. With their current lineup now firmly established, the single positions the band as an increasingly distinctive presence for listeners drawn to ambitious, genre-defying alternative music.
