Tony Iommi’s new album From the Dark pairs the Black Sabbath guitarist with Jørn Lande, Becky Baldwin and Karl Brazil for an eight-song studio collaboration.
Tony Iommi has released From the Dark, which arrived October 23 through BMG. Rather than revisiting a familiar Sabbath lineup, the guitarist has assembled a different working band. The focus is a new set of songs built around his guitar and a consistent group of collaborators.
According to Iommi’s official album announcement, Jørn Lande shares writing credits on every song. Becky Baldwin handles bass, with Karl Brazil on drums. Iommi co-produced the record with Mike Exeter, extending a longstanding creative partnership into this new project.
The running order starts with “Over the Violent Sun” and ends with “Legacy.” Between them are “Black Times,” “World Alone,” “Beyond the Dead,” “Stormwatcher,” “Death Wake” and “Return of the Arbalist.” The eight-track structure keeps the album distinct from an anthology or retrospective.
There is also a guest connection beyond the core band. Iommi’s official store confirms Brian May appears on “Death Wake”. That places the Queen guitarist inside a project otherwise anchored by Lande, Baldwin and Brazil, rather than a revolving cast of featured singers.
The physical editions offer different ways into the release. Double vinyl is cut at 45rpm and packaged in a gatefold with Iommi’s signature cross cut into its sleeve. A deluxe CD edition adds “Scent of Dark” and an extended “Deified,” while a cassette edition is also listed.
For a visual introduction, “World Alone” has an official narrative video set in a retro-futuristic dystopia. Its protagonist, The Believer, faces a twisted video game. The clip offers a companion to the album’s imagined world without turning this new chapter into another account of Sabbath’s past.
