Nicki Minaj is stepping into the boardroom as the Trump administration turns a federal small-business initiative into a celebrity-led $1 million pitch showdown.
Nicki Minaj will serve as a judge for the Trump administration’s Million Dollar Pitch Competition, a Small Business Administration event bringing five small-business finalists to Washington, D.C., for a live finale on September 18. The agency announced the celebrity lineup on August 31, with People among the outlets reporting on the reality competition-style format.
Minaj will be joined on the judging panel by entrepreneur and private equity fund manager Grant Cardone and Airbnb co-founder and U.S. Chief Design Officer Joe Gebbia. Actor and television host Dean Cain is set to host the finale, which the SBA says will award a combined $1 million in growth capital funded by Clover Network, Inc.
The five finalists are Compotech, Inc. of Brewer, Maine; Winton Machine of Suwanee, Georgia; Plas-Tech Tooling of Garner, Iowa; Red River of Gillette, Wyoming; and VetPowered LLC of San Diego, California. First place will receive $400,000, followed by $250,000 for second, $150,000 for third, $125,000 for fourth and $75,000 for fifth.
The competition is part of the SBA’s Freedom 250 initiative commemorating 250 years of American free enterprise. SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler has promoted the event with a distinctly reality-TV framing, describing it as bringing “boardroom energy” to Washington in language that recalls President Donald Trump’s long-running NBC series The Apprentice.
Minaj publicly celebrated the announcement on X, calling the opportunity a “major, MAJOR KEY” and saying she was excited to take part in an administration initiative supporting small businesses. Her involvement comes after a series of increasingly visible appearances alongside Trump in 2026, including the Trump Accounts Summit in Washington and a White House luncheon over the summer.
The SBA has confirmed the September 18 live finale and its judging lineup, though its announcement did not specify a television network or streaming platform for the event. With celebrity judges, a seven-figure prize pool and entrepreneurs pitching their companies in front of a panel, the format gives the administration’s small-business showcase an unmistakable competition-show edge.
