LOS ANGELES — Phillip Speed, professionally known as GODSPEED, is establishing himself as a versatile independent artist and producer while developing a career that extends beyond music. Born and raised in Jacksonville, North Carolina, and now based in Los Angeles, GODSPEED takes a hands-on approach to his music, producing, mixing and performing his own songs.
Although music was always an important part of his life, GODSPEED did not initially see himself pursuing it as a career. His musical experience began in school, where he participated in band throughout middle school and his freshman year of high school, earning first-chair placement.
While attending UNC Wilmington and playing soccer, GODSPEED began exploring beat production. He found himself increasingly interested in the production behind songs and the creative process that happened before the finished record reached listeners.
That interest eventually changed the direction of his career.
GODSPEED stepped away from soccer to dedicate himself to music, changed his major to music technology and became involved with the music program at UNC Wilmington. After finding that the program leaned more toward classical music than the contemporary music industry, he completed his degree before relocating to Los Angeles to pursue a deeper understanding of the music business.
Taking Control of the Creative Process
One of the defining aspects of GODSPEED’s artistry is his involvement in multiple stages of creating a record. As a producer, mixer and performer, he is able to remain closely connected to his music from its earliest stages through the final performance.
That versatility has also helped him navigate the challenges of entering the music industry independently.
“Navigating the music industry by myself has been the biggest challenge I’ve faced,” GODSPEED said.
Rather than allowing that challenge to limit his progress, he focused on becoming adaptable and learning to operate outside of his comfort zone. He credits that willingness to become comfortable with being uncomfortable as an important part of his development.
Expanding His Production Credits
While continuing to build his own catalog, GODSPEED has also worked behind the scenes on music for other artists.
His production credits include “Mars,” the intro to Star Bandz’s album Estrella. He also co-produced “Big Spender” by Dashawn Jordan and 24Hrs and handled production for the outro of Dalait’s EP DALI’S INFERNO.
The projects have contributed to an expanding production resume while giving GODSPEED opportunities to work across different artists and creative styles.
A New Chapter With THE INTROVERTED CHILDREN ii
Released at the end of May 2026, THE INTROVERTED CHILDREN ii serves as GODSPEED’s latest major project.
The album features 16 tracks and contains no guest features, keeping the focus on GODSPEED’s own performances, production and creative direction.
The project gives listeners an opportunity to experience his work as a complete creative process rather than through a single role. It also marks another stage in his efforts to establish himself as an independent artist in Los Angeles.
Building a Brand Beyond Music
GODSPEED’s ambitions extend beyond producing and performing records. He is developing plans for a broader creative brand that could eventually encompass several areas of entertainment and entrepreneurship.
Among his long-term goals are opening his own recording studio, starting a record label and developing a clothing line. He also plans to explore the creation of an adult animated series.
By expanding into these areas, GODSPEED hopes to create an independent platform that brings together music, entertainment, fashion and media.
For now, his focus remains on continuing to grow as an artist while building on the production experience and creative independence that have shaped his career so far.
With THE INTROVERTED CHILDREN ii now available, GODSPEED is using his latest release to introduce more listeners to his work and lay the groundwork for the larger creative vision he plans to pursue in the years ahead.
