Frank Sinatra’s ‘Sinatra at the Sands’ at 60 Expands Into Five Complete Shows

Frank Sinatra’s first live album returns in two different forms: a remixed version of the original release and a larger set of complete concerts.

Frank Sinatra’s Sinatra at the Sands has received a 60th-anniversary edition through Capitol Records, UMe and Frank Sinatra Enterprises. Released October 23, the campaign revisits the singer’s Las Vegas residency with Count Basie and his orchestra, arranged and conducted by Quincy Jones.

The five-CD set is not simply the original album spread across more discs. It presents five complete shows from the 1966 Copa Room engagement, whereas the familiar double album selected performances from different nights. Dolby Atmos versions of both releases are also available on streaming services.

The box-set programme moves chronologically through the second show of January 26, the first shows of January 27, 28 and 29, and the second show of February 1. Each concert has its own disc, preserving the separation between performances.

Two additional songs come from another show. “Angel Eyes” and “Where or When,” recorded during the second January 28 performance, appear as bonuses on disc three. The tracklisting also retains the spoken “Tea Break” and “A Few Last Words” segments alongside the music.

The two-LP Vinylphyle edition takes a different approach, with new Larry Walsh mixes and mastering by Joe Nino-Hernes. Its gatefold keeps Stan Cornyn’s original liner notes, supplemented by Charles Pignone’s new writing and previously unseen residency photographs. The records are pressed on 180-gram black vinyl.

A preview from the January 29 show is already available. The official “Come Fly With Me” visualizer introduces the performance that opens disc four. Released during the rollout, it now sits within the full anniversary collection rather than standing alone as an advance track.
