Music has an undeniable power: its evocative ability to stir emotions, to transport us to different times and places, to unite and inspire us. Few understand this power better than Melbourne-based singer, songwriter, and producer Simon Langdon.
Coming from a household full of country and western music, pop/rock, and country rock, Simon started his musical journey at a young age. His father and grandfather were both musicians, and their legacy gave him a passion for music that would guide his life. This passion inspired him to write his first song soon after picking up a guitar at the age of 9. Today, his music influences range from legendary bands like Dire Straits, to soul-stirring songwriting style of Neil Finn from Crowded House, and in recent years, classic indie folk bands such as Sons of the East and Boy and Bear.
Driven by authenticity and independence, Simon is uninterested in reproducing the music of others. Instead, he prefers to be true to his own voice and creative vision. Striving to maintain a balance between his dual passions as a multi-instrumentalist/vocalist, and as a music producer, these qualities have turned him into an artist focused on crafting memorable lyrics, infectious hooks, and festival-like indie-pop vibes.
Simon’s upcoming single, “Your Seat,” epitomizes this dedication to individual expression. The song, a heartfelt ballad about yearning and loss, and the seat we all keep opposite for that special person in our life, will donate proceeds, the use of the song and video clip content to Lifeline Narrm’s “Save a Seat” campaign; a project dedicated to raising awareness and funds for suicide prevention in Victoria, Australia. The connection to Lifeline Narrm isn’t coincidental. Having lost two close friends to suicide, Simon is deeply committed to using his music as a mechanism for generating awareness around mental health issues. It is a commitment that extends not only to his music but also to Simon giving back, as the proceeds from vinyl sales of the album are also destined for early onset dementia research in the loving memory of his best friend, Mick (Miroslav) Stanic.
With profound musical and personal connections driving him forward, Simon has drawn considerable acclaim for his work. His independent release, “Pink and Blue,” has received well over 340,000 Spotify streams since its May 28th release. His song “Waiting for the Sun” has been featured on Free-to-air TV and Pay-TV in Australia and abroad, as a theme track to a popular TV show for over a decade.
Now, as he gears up to release a highly anticipated music video for “Your Seat,” Simon is also assembling a talented live band for an explosive debut and album release, Dalry Road, in 2024. Carving out his space within the music industry, Simon recently played at the world-renowned Melbourne Cup at Flemington Racecourse and aims to secure distribution for his upcoming record along with music festivals and larger audiences in 2024, in a bid to further his reach.
More than just an artist, Simon Langdon is a figure of inspiration. His passion for music resonates deeply with his desire to effect change in the world by lifting others up, championing mental health causes and creating authentic, stirring music that touches the heart. As his music echoes across Australia and beyond and as he continues to lend his voice to worthy causes, Simon Langdon shows us all the transformative power of music.
