Pharrell Williams has issued T-Pain a direct creative challenge, urging the singer and producer to make more R&B and help restore what he sees as a missing connection in the genre. During a recent livestream, T-Pain answered a phone call from Pharrell, who quickly made his case, as Complex reported.
“What the fuck are you doing, man?” Pharrell asked. “There’s no one in your way. No one can make R&B that’s missing like you.” The Grammy-winning producer then praised T-Pain’s ability to make distinctive records feel effortless, framing the moment as an opportunity for him to fill a space Pharrell believes is currently open.
Pharrell expanded on the idea by telling T-Pain, “I feel like you’re the bridge to bringing back R&B to what I feel like it means to black people.” He added, “You are the bridge. Ain’t nobody like you, bro. And you got the personality of the youth, where the youth would gravitate towards you.”

The message was less about nostalgia than Pharrell’s belief that T-Pain can connect generations through his songwriting, production instincts and personality.
