Kacey Musgraves has announced the 16-track Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes for release on January 15, 2027.

The newly announced companion to Middle of Nowhere will arrive through Lost Highway, extending the project into a second full-length collection rather than a small bonus-track addendum. The official album listing sets January 15, 2027 as the digital release date, with physical editions also listed for preorder.

Two previews are scheduled first: “Weekend in Texas” and “Mi Tesoro”, with the latter described as her version of the norteño standard. Pitchfork reports that both are scheduled for midnight Eastern Daylight Time on October 23, or 04:00 UTC, several months before the full companion arrives.

The tracklist includes four songs performed entirely in Spanish, among them a new version of “Uncertain, TX” featuring Intocable. It also lists “Tú Solo Tú” as a live recording from Mexico City with Mariachi Oro de América, giving the announced set both studio and concert material rather than only one recording format.

The first Middle of Nowhere arrived on May 1, 2026, with Musgraves producing alongside Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk. In the original release announcement, she described drawing on life between Texas, Tennessee and Mexico, while the label identified dancehall, country and neighboring musical traditions as part of that record’s context.

There is a specific connection between the volumes in “Uncertain, TX,” whose original album version features Willie Nelson. The new Spanish-language version credits Intocable instead, showing how the companion can revisit an existing composition through a different collaboration without implying that every familiar title is simply the same recording repackaged.

The announced collection comprises 11 new songs and five covers, making its mix of original writing and reinterpretation central to the release plan. With the first two previews scheduled for October 23, the rollout begins this week ahead of the full collection’s January arrival.
