JuJu Walker Turns Pain Into Purpose on New EP Daddy Issues

Some projects entertain. Others tell the truth.

On her debut EP Daddy Issues, JuJu Walker delivers six songs that explore abandonment, identity, healing, faith, and self-discovery. The project serves as an emotional journey, taking listeners from the pain of unanswered questions to the strength that comes from facing them head-on.

Born in Hawaii and raised between Detroit and the church her family helped pioneer, JuJu Walker brings a unique perspective to her music. As a woman of Mediterranean Italian and Black heritage, she describes her sound as “Gumbo Soul”—a blend of cultures, experiences, faith, and raw emotion that refuses to fit neatly into one category.

Throughout Daddy Issues, Walker confronts the realities of growing up with wounds that many people carry but few openly discuss. Rather than remaining in a place of hurt, the EP evolves into a story of resilience, growth, and empowerment.

What makes Daddy Issues stand out is its authenticity. The songs feel less like performances and more like conversations—honest reflections from someone who spent years trying to find where she belonged before deciding to create her own space.

“The soundtrack of a woman who didn’t fit in anywhere and decided to create her own box and tell the truth once and for all,” Walker says of the project.

With soulful vocals, heartfelt songwriting, and a message that resonates far beyond its title, Daddy Issues is more than a debut EP. It’s a testament to the power of healing, self-acceptance, and finding strength in your story.

Daddy Issues is available now on all streaming platforms.
