The autograph seeker has apologized for his behavior and says Harry Styles stayed calm during their New York encounter.
The autograph seeker involved in Harry Styles’ widely circulated New York street encounter has apologized and challenged the way the exchange was described. Giovanni, who uses the Instagram account GTV Reality, said he had been the person to lose his composure. His statement shifts the focus from the brief footage to the account of someone directly involved in the October 21 interaction.
“Harry didn’t lose his cool. I did. He stayed calm and even helped calm me down,” Giovanni wrote in the statement reported by AOL. He said he had been having a difficult day and accepted responsibility for how he behaved. Rather than asking Styles to explain himself, the post expressly offered an apology to the singer.
Giovanni also described a history of previous encounters, saying Styles first signed an autograph for him in 2012 and had treated him well. He disputed headlines portraying the singer as the person who escalated the situation. By placing the incident against that longer history, he made the apology more specific than a general expression of regret about appearing in a viral clip.
The original encounter took place in Manhattan and involved a request to sign a copy of Styles’ album Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally., according to AOL. Footage circulated before the apology, drawing attention to an interaction outside a concert or scheduled fan event. The later statement adds context that was not contained in a short clip of two people speaking on a sidewalk.
Styles is spending an extended stretch in New York for a 30-show Madison Square Garden residency. The run began August 26 and is scheduled to finish October 31, according to the concert context in AOL’s coverage. The street encounter was separate from those performances, even as the residency has kept the singer in the city and regularly in public view.
The clearest development is the public correction from the person who sought the autograph. CNN Brasil reported that Styles’ team had not publicly commented at the time of its October 23 coverage. Giovanni’s statement stands on its own: he apologized, praised Styles’ conduct and rejected the idea that the singer had lost control. That is a different account from the initial framing of the circulating video.
