Some relationships leave a lasting impression for all the wrong reasons. For Rockwell Scharer, the creative force behind Diesel Cafe, those experiences became the inspiration for “Strychnine,” a campy, upbeat dance track that finds humor in the chaos of toxic love.
Instead of turning those memories into another song about heartbreak, Scharer takes a more playful approach, celebrating the complicated attraction and drama that can come with relationships. The music video, released on October 29, 2026, brings that spirit to the screen.
Musically, “Strychnine” blends rock, alternative rock, and dance influences into a track designed to keep people moving. Its playful attitude gives the subject matter a different perspective, balancing the tension of the song’s inspiration with an energetic sound. The recording also features musicians who played on Alanis Morissette’s landmark album Jagged Little Pill. That connection adds an interesting piece of musical history to the story behind the single.
The song and its remix are included on The Best of Diesel Cafe, a greatest hits collection available across streaming platforms. The collection brings together music from the project’s catalog, giving longtime listeners another way to revisit the work while introducing new audiences to it. Alongside the official video, a behind-the-scenes feature offers a look at the making of the visual release, giving fans another way to experience the project.
At the heart of “Strychnine” is an experience many listeners may recognize: being drawn into a relationship even when the warning signs are hard to ignore. Diesel Cafe, led by Rock Scharer, approaches that subject without making the song feel weighed down by regret. Instead, he turns the tension into something entertaining, allowing the music to carry a sense of humor alongside the personal inspiration. It is a reminder that difficult experiences can sometimes become the material for something unexpectedly fun.
The release is also part of a larger plan for Diesel Cafe. Scharer intends to promote eight more singles from The Best of Diesel Cafe, continuing to bring attention to the project’s existing catalog. With the single, remix, music video, and additional releases in the pipeline, there is more for listeners to discover beyond this one track.
Listeners can watch the “Strychnine” music video and its behind-the-scenes feature on YouTube, while the song is available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Tidal, YouTube Music, and other streaming platforms. More information can be found through the project’s Linktree.
With “Strychnine,” Diesel Cafe turns relationship chaos into a reason to move, proving that even the messiest memories can find a place on the dance floor.
