Bonnie Milne’s ‘Coco In Motion’ Turns a Son’s Restless Energy Into Music

The Canadian composer’s October 30 single brings together Kevin Fox and Adam Zimmerman for an instrumental reflection on childhood, change and parental love.

Bonnie Milne’s “Coco In Motion” will arrive on October 30, 2026, through MTS Records. Written for her eldest son, the instrumental single translates his boundless childhood energy into a composition shaped by changing tempos, brief modulations and contrasting instrumental voices.

Rather than settling into one uninterrupted pace, Milne uses movement as the central idea of the piece. Shifts in speed reflect different experiences and circumstances in her son’s life, while changes in harmony suggest the emotional transitions that come with growing older.

Milne’s piano anchors the arrangement, with additional keyboard parts supplying harmonic movement and countermelodies. That layered approach gives the composition room to consider several feelings at once: the excitement of discovery, the uncertainty of change and the tenderness of watching someone become increasingly independent.

Returning collaborator Kevin Fox contributes cello, adding another expressive voice to the musical portrait. Adam Zimmerman plays a soprano guitar specially built for him by a classical guitar maker, an instrument whose delicate brightness contrasts with the cello’s deeper register.

The recording took shape across two Ontario studios. Ross Love recorded Milne on his Shigeru piano, along with Zimmerman’s instrumental tracks, at his home studio in Orillia. The recordings then moved to Adam Fair at Villa Sound in Collingwood, where Fox’s cello was added and Fair completed the mixing.

“Coco In Motion” continues the emotionally focused instrumental direction heard in Milne’s “Glimpses”. Her earlier milestones include a No. 1 UK iTunes placement for “Perception,” Top 20 radio success with “New Beginnings” and more than 200,000 Spotify streams.

The new composition keeps its attention on a more intimate kind of legacy. Its combination of piano, cello, soprano guitar and keyboards offers a portrait of a relationship that changes with time, allowing listeners to connect the music with their own memories rather than follow a fixed lyrical narrative.

For Milne, the inspiration begins with one son, but the subject reaches beyond a single family: the balance between holding on to childhood memories and making room for the person a child becomes. Her existing recordings are available on Spotify ahead of the single’s October 30 release.
