E Bleu Reintroduces Himself With “backstab/bury” After Two Years Away From Solo Music

AUGUST 23, 2026 4:47PM
Houston artist E Bleu, who recently contributed to Kevin Abstract’s BLUSH, prepares to begin a new chapter of his solo career.

Calling it a comeback would not quite tell the full story. E Bleu has remained creatively active, even while taking a step back from releasing music under his own name.

Nearly two years have passed since the Houston artist last delivered a solo release, but his presence has continued to grow through his involvement with Kevin Abstract’s BLUSH. During that stretch, Bleu became part of a wider creative movement while also laying the groundwork for the next phase of his own music.

BLUSH featured an eclectic group of collaborators, including Dominic Fike, JPEGMAFIA, Danny Brown, Quadeca, Ameer Vann, Love Spells, and E Bleu. Bleu’s contribution was more substantial than a traditional guest spot, giving him a noticeable role across the project.

Along with credited appearances on “Copy” and “Pop Out,” he also provided additional vocals on “Girlfriend” and “Bloom.” Those contributions helped establish Bleu as part of the album’s broader creative identity instead of simply another name on the tracklist.

For Bleu, BLUSH ultimately became an important transition point.

The project exists in a space where alternative music, rap, R&B, and pop frequently overlap, creating the kind of genre-fluid environment that has always suited Bleu’s approach. His own work has never depended heavily on fitting into one particular sound, and his time within the BLUSH universe only pushed that versatility further.

With that chapter continuing to develop, Bleu is now preparing to put his own music back at the center.

His next single, “backstab/bury,” will serve as his first solo release in nearly two years and appears to signal a shift in direction. Bleu has already shared early teasers of the track on Instagram, giving listeners a preview of what he has been working toward.

Rather than revisiting exactly where he left off, the new record suggests Bleu is interested in moving forward. “backstab/bury” looks set to introduce a more evolved version of the artist, shaped in part by the creative experiences of the past two years.

That extended gap between solo releases may ultimately work in his favor. While many artists operate under the pressure to constantly put out new material, Bleu remained involved in music without having to rush his own next chapter. His work with BLUSH allowed him to keep experimenting while giving his solo material enough space to take a different shape.

There is also more ahead beyond the upcoming single.

BLUSH 2 remains on the horizon, extending the collaborative world that Bleu has become closely associated with. Its arrival could place him in an interesting position, continuing his work within Kevin Abstract’s creative circle while simultaneously building momentum around his own new music.

That makes the timing of “backstab/bury” especially important.

Listeners have already seen one version of E Bleu through his earlier solo work and another through his contributions to BLUSH. Now, after nearly two years of development, a third version is beginning to emerge.

“backstab/bury” will offer the first proper introduction to where E Bleu is headed next.

This is less about returning to what he was doing before.

It is about showing listeners what he has become.
