Jim Carrey Blasts Into the Future as Warner Bros. Revives ‘The Jetsons’ for Live Action

Jim Carrey is heading to Orbit City for Warner Bros.’ long-awaited live-action adaptation of The Jetsons. After months of speculation surrounding his involvement, the studio has now included the project among its upcoming film slate, bringing one of animation’s most recognizable futuristic families closer to a big-screen return.

According to People, Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed Carrey’s starring role in its latest shareholder letter. The film is currently planned for release sometime after 2027, although production dates, additional cast members and Carrey’s specific character have not yet been announced.

Jurassic World filmmaker Colin Trevorrow is attached to direct, with Joe Epstein involved in developing the screenplay. Carrey had been linked to the adaptation since October 2025, but the studio’s latest update signals that the project is moving beyond early discussions and becoming part of Warner Bros.’ larger theatrical plans.

Originally introduced by Hanna-Barbera in 1962, The Jetsons followed George and Jane Jetson, their children Judy and Elroy, their dog Astro and robotic housekeeper Rosie. Flying cars, automated homes and space-age technology made the series an imaginative counterpart to The Flintstones, while its family-centered comedy helped it remain part of popular culture through later revivals and the 1990 animated film.

Carrey’s expressive physical comedy and talent for transforming into larger-than-life characters make him a natural fit for the exaggerated world of The Jetsons. His successful performances as Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise have also shown how effectively he can bring animated energy into a live-action family adventure.

With its star now confirmed, the live-action Jetsons movie has the opportunity to reintroduce the classic property to a new generation while embracing the nostalgia surrounding the original series. Warner Bros. has not revealed a storyline or official release date, but Carrey’s involvement gives the futuristic comedy a major personality capable of carrying its return to the big screen.
