MIAMI, FL – Just weeks after receiving honors at the 2025 BMI Pop Awards for his contribution to Lil Durk and J. Cole’s multi-platinum anthem “All My Life,” acclaimed songwriter, producer, and recording artist LunchMoney Lewis steps back into the spotlight with his newest single, “Buttercup.”
The track, produced by longtime collaborator Nathan “Happy” Perez, serves as the official lead from Lewis’s upcoming studio album, ‘Kosh’ — a deeply personal project named after his own middle name. With smooth R&B production and heartfelt lyrics, “Buttercup” is a celebration of mature love: intimate, consistent, and enduring.
“Buttercup is about the feeling of coming home to someone who still takes your breath away,” Lewis shares. “It’s about the quiet kind of love that deepens over time — the kind where even after years together, she’s still your favorite person, your ‘buttercup.’” He credits his inspiration to “seasoned Black couples who are still dancing, still laughing, and still choosing each other every day.”
As a Grammy-winning creative force behind the scenes, Gamal “LunchMoney” Lewis has written and produced hits for a long list of major stars — from Nicki Minaj and Jessie J to Doja Cat and Meghan Trainor — while also cementing his own success with his global 2015 breakout, “Bills.” His music blends humor, melody, and soul, often infused with the Caribbean rhythms of his Jamaican roots.
Beyond the booth, Lewis is a tastemaker in his own right, spinning vinyl sets across Miami that blend Reggae, Afrobeat, Kompas, and classic grooves. Through his label, Lunchbox Records, and publishing house, Big Chune, he continues to uplift emerging voices while pushing his own sound into new territory.
“Kosh is me at my most honest,” he explains. “It’s the story of a regular guy trying to navigate love, work, and emotion in a world that doesn’t always make space for that vulnerability.”
In anticipation of the album, Lewis also dropped a poignant single, “Dear Songwriter,” accompanied by a bonus track, “ANR Nias,”** which dives into the behind-the-scenes challenges of writing for others.
