Black Music Month in June celebrates the rich cultural heritage and contributions of African American artists to global music. It highlights the evolution of genres like jazz, blues, hip-hop, and R&B that have shaped innovation and social change. This month honors pioneering musicians’ legacy and encourages future generations to carry their artistic spirit forward.
Meet Leanne “L-Stringz” Holmes is a classically trained violinist and entertainer, known for blending Hip-Hop and RnB with her instrument. Starting her solo career at 16, she continued to shine at Hampton University, where she became the only violinist to perform the National Anthem at the Honda Battle of the Bands. Now based in Maryland, L-Stringz leads her band “The Gentlemen,” making waves in the Baltimore and Pennsylvania arts scenes.
She has performed at major events including the Apollo Theater’s 90th anniversary and for organizations like Def Jam and Rolling Out Magazine. She has been featured on shows such as Married to Medicine, and “STAR” on FOX as well as programs for the NFL, WNBA, New York Fashion Week, and Rolling Out Magazine. L-Stringz is dedicated to bringing a fresh “New Music Experience” to every stage and is a passionate advocate for arts education.
