Following on from the release of ‘God in Chains,’ Becca James shows no signs of slowing down as she unleashes, ‘Holy Bed’, the latest single is to be released on the New Moon, February 28th, ahead of her forthcoming, world-building album out in the spring.
Controlling the same cinematic power as her previous single, James takes a slower climb toward the peaks of expression. The track expertly creates a sense of personal turmoil and triumph with every phrase, bringing the raw acoustics of the piano, subtle ethereal synthesis and angelic vocal layers, into a single, all-powerful force. Within this, themes of self and disunity are conveyed through lyrical storytelling. As the song reaches its climax, it is a moment of breakthrough, with vast vocal arrangements, reverberating drums and spirited instrumentals delivering a gut-wrenching cry of passion. James shares;
“‘Holy Bed’ explores trauma, dissociation, and the struggle to reconnect with the body, self, and others; especially in intimacy, sexuality and embodiment. It’s about reclaiming safety and power. I’m so thankful that my co-writer and producer, Gustavo, created a safe space where I could tell this story and that Kim Nickerson added the final magic we needed to bring the track to life.
Recording the final vocals, I had to fully embrace the lyric ‘I’m a goddess.’ We turned off the lights and sang our hearts out, and when I heard the layers of voices, I was completely overwhelmed with emotion. Recording the grand piano at Tileyard was another unforgettable moment. Each time I sing it live, it is such a healing experience.”
The song will be accompanied by a striking and emotive music video created by a team of London-based creatives that channels the energy of the Divine Feminine, Aphrodite, and the sacral chakra, an energy centre for creativity.
