Let’s take a trip to Chicago, a city known for its undeniable contribution to not only hip hop but all music. From legendary artists like Chaka Khan and Earth, Wind and Fire to more currently artists like Chance The Rapper and Lil Durk. It’s clear that Chicago breeds extraordinary musical talents.
Recently, Chicago artist Ewol Samo has taken that “Chi Town swagger” to another level! Most known for an altercation that went viral, Ewol Samo is officially Chi Town’s “Mr. Wrong Guy”! However, Ewol’s new found fame is much different then what a lot of Chicago rap fans know him for.
Connecting with his Nigerian roots, Ewol Samo just released his single titled “Tic Toc”. The song is an afrobeats record with an incredible sound; Ewol’s aggressive voice blends perfectly with the smooth rhythmic beat. According to Ewol, “this is the sound I’m pushing now, this is what the people want.” Evidently the people do like this song a lot! Already “Tic Toc” has gained over half a million plays in less than a month.
So now the question becomes, could afrobeats become the next wave for the city of Chicago? My answer is yes, the city has experienced so much trauma from drill music; this song is like a breath of fresh air. Go stream “Tic Toc” and follow Ewol Samo on Instagram at @ewol_samo
