Floral Image have certainly cemented themselves as one of the most exciting psych-rock acts on the circuit over the past couple of years. Following on from their recent single “Gallipoli” and predecessor “Babe & The Devil”, which attracted the attention of EARMILK, DORK, Backseat Mafia and God Is In The TV as well as radio play from BBC 6 Music’s Amy Lamé and Tom Robinson, John Kennedy on Radio X and Shell Zenner on Amazing Radio, the band return with an anthemic new offering entitled “Voices” that comes out alongside their debut E.P ‘So Synthesised.’
‘So Synthesised’, infuses real living magic into these four tracks to deliver an EP of considerable might, guile and enigmatic sonic exploration. Touching bases with psychedelia, meditative rock ‘n’ roll and 70’s pop, ‘So Synthesised’ displays the band at their euphoric and transcendent best.
‘Gallipoli’ signals the band’s underlying sonic force with formidable, tenacious intention; before ‘Babe & The Devil’ scars with stomping riffs and prog-inspired mystery. ‘Round & Round’ highlights Floral’s impressive songwriting craft with buttery melodies and glistening gentle grooves; while lead single ‘Voices’ – a highlight of their raucous live shows – plunges listeners deep into far-reaching aural landscapes of decadent colour and wild anthem.
“Voices” takes influence from 60s art-rock, 70s kraut and 90s neo-psych. This sonic journey will carry you to a simpler time of child-like liberation. It embodies the feeling of connection and coming together with your most beloved, typically a muddy field somewhere in the countryside where worries are danced away and dreams are made.
Speaking about the EP process, they say:
“Recorded across the bedrooms, basements and barns that we could get our hands on during the comeback summer of 2022, we explored the potential of primitive voice recordings and improvised jams to put together what we felt was a cohesive collection of material that still harnessed our wide ranging influences. Though in order to satiate our desire for attaining a sound somewhat resembling a cosmic soup, we soon realised that we required assistance from rare analog synths, rusty baking trays and the calming ambience of Radio Norfolk football commentary. Having been influenced greatly by artists who both record and produce their own releases, we are proud to have done the same ourselves; despite the lack of sleep and general malaise in every other aspect of life (sorry to anyone who was abandoned in the making of this E.P).”
Floral Image are a psychedelic pop band from the third-eye of Norwich, UK. Despite the fact that they were formed in 2019, they have received a warm welcome to the psychedelic genre, with their vibrant sound, reminiscent of summer sun, shining through a pool of other psychedelic bands. The band’s early demos were championed on BBC Introducing by both Huw Stephens and Jamz Supernova, featuring on the 2020 ‘Ones To Watch Show’ alongside Dry Cleaning and Porridge Radio.
Discussing their video for VOICES the band explain:
“It’s an ode to Colours, Lights, the Sun (in the Sky), and getting absolutely Willy Wonka’d in a field with the ones you love most dearest. We here at Floral are committed to delivering only the most visually jarring, kinetically daring, and frankly fashionable video content available on the current market; VOICES being the epitome of this so far.”
With the release of their much anticipated E.P “So Synthesised,” getting closer and closer, the band are about to embark on a UK tour to celebrate it. Floral Image have a live show that is sure to blow you away. Previously touring alongside the likes of Triptides, Flamingods and Flying Moon In Space, the band have enough experience to play to any sized room and captivate an audience. Join them in the neverending solstice. Forever.
