Nec Nymbl Brings Faith and Independent Conviction to “Tell-Lib Scrawny”

Nec Nymbl puts production, faith and ideological debate at the center of “Tell-Lib Scrawny,” his diss track aimed at Talib Kweli.

“Tell-Lib Scrawny” turns Nec Nymbl’s disagreements with Talib Kweli into a self-produced statement about belief, identity and public accountability.

For Nec Nymbl, the argument behind “Tell-Lib Scrawny (Talib Kweli Diss Track)” reaches into the principles he brings to his work. The Toronto MC, producer, engineer and DJ has released the single alongside an official music video, directing his criticism toward Kweli while placing his own religious convictions and independence at the forefront.

Nymbl identifies with Eastern Orthodox Christianity and rejects the left-versus-right divisions he describes as “politricks.” That outlook gives the record its thematic foundation: he wants to question how political identities, religious affiliations and celebrity status shape the way artists speak and act in public. His critique asks whether the principles expressed through conscious hip-hop are reflected beyond the music.

His Greek heritage adds a personal dimension to that stance. Nymbl draws on a family history of surviving and resisting Nazi and Fascist forces in Greece to explain his opposition to authoritarianism and racial supremacy. In presenting his side of the disagreement, he argues that political labeling can obscure a person’s actual beliefs and history.

Nymbl also handles the track’s production, bringing the dispute into the same independent creative practice that supports his collaborative catalog. Recent work includes “Age of Revelation” with Myka 9 and RAjaw; “Tell-Lib Scrawny” places him alone at the center of the statement. The release also includes an instrumental version, giving listeners a separate route into its musical foundation.

Across the song’s central argument, Nymbl challenges what he regards as inconsistencies involving anti-establishment politics, industry relationships and the treatment of religious belief. He describes the release as a response to his online exchanges with Kweli, and its accusations should be understood as his account and artistic viewpoint rather than independently established findings. The focus on faith and cultural identity also connects with the questions he raised on “ODD I SEE”.

“Tell-Lib Scrawny” is available now on streaming platforms, with the official video offering another way to engage with Nymbl’s statement. Hear the track on Spotify, explore his wider catalog on Bandcamp and keep up with him through Instagram and YouTube.
