Taylor Swift has set a Sept. 25 release for “Patient Zero,” a new single revealed after a cryptic countdown and a run of zero-themed clues across her online channels.
Taylor Swift has officially announced “Patient Zero,” with the new song scheduled to arrive this Friday, Sept. 25. Billboard reported the release Tuesday after Swift ended a countdown that had appeared on her website earlier in the day, putting a firm date on Swift’s latest single release.
Swift shared the news directly on social media, writing, “I’ve been impatiently waiting to tell you that my brand new single ‘Patient Zero’ will be out on September 25.” She also confirmed that the release would be available to pre-order through her website for a limited 24-hour window.
The reveal followed several deliberate changes across Swift’s online presence. Her Instagram bio replaced multiple letter O’s with zeroes, while lyrics tied to “The Life of a Showgirl” on Apple Music were also altered with zeroes before the countdown ended and the title was revealed.
Swift’s official website is offering standard, acoustic and piano CD editions of “Patient Zero,” each listed as a limited Collector’s Edition. The site says the CDs are available until Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. ET, or while supplies last, making the physical rollout part of the song’s short lead-up to release.
“Patient Zero” follows “I Knew It, I Knew You,” the original song Swift released earlier in 2026 for “Toy Story 5.” It also arrives nearly a year after her 2025 studio album “The Life of a Showgirl,” extending a period in which Swift has continued to put out new music and visual projects outside a traditional album campaign.
The timing also places the single two days before the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 27. Swift is set to receive the inaugural Artist Director Honors at the ceremony, giving “Patient Zero” a high-profile release window just before one of the year’s biggest music events.
