DALLAS, TX, September 2026 — Eight years after Aura helped introduce a new chapter in his career, independent hip-hop artist Lamar Adot Thomas is returning to the project that became an important part of his evolution. His new album, Aura 2, arrives September 19, 2026, revisiting the ideas and emotions of the original while showing how much has changed since its release.
Originally released on October 4, 2018, Aura was Lamar’s first album following his move from New Orleans to Dallas, Texas. The record became a turning point, helping him establish himself within his new surroundings while expanding the identity he was building as an independent artist. The era also became closely connected to Lamar’s visual branding, particularly his signature bright orange hoodie, which grew into such a recognizable part of his presentation that it later inspired a project of its own.

From there, songs including “The Rappers Rapper,” “Blood On Me,” “Jumping Off Mountains,” “Dropping That Weight,” “Get That Back,” and “Gravity” explore ambition, pressure, self-belief, responsibility and the work required to keep moving forward. Instead of presenting growth as a simple upward climb, Aura 2 examines the weight that can come with it.
The project also leaves room for Lamar’s more reflective side. The three-part Summer Love series looks at different dimensions of relationships, while “DnD Intro” and “DnD” focus on stepping away from outside noise and protecting personal energy. “Right Wrong Truth” pushes further into the album’s introspective territory, examining the complicated spaces between perception, relationships and individual truth. The album’s only featured artist, Kaution Mr.700, appears on “Shine,” while production throughout the project comes from Loop288, Nick B. and Ramen, with DJ Mo Pleaze handling curation.
For Lamar, the importance of Aura 2 lies in what it represents beyond the title.
