With her debut single “IN BETWEEN,” Ellory Grace steps into her artistry by embracing a space that is intentionally unresolved, choosing to introduce herself not through certainty, but through emotional honesty. In this interview, she reflects on why leading with a feeling of transition felt like the most truthful way to begin her journey, explaining that “IN BETWEEN” captures the moment where something shifts internally before it can be fully understood or defined. Rather than presenting a polished or overly explained identity as a new artist, Ellory Grace leans into vulnerability, allowing the record to sit within the same emotional uncertainty she experienced while creating it. That openness becomes the foundation of her introduction, setting the tone for an artistic voice rooted in presence, subtlety, and lived emotion.
Q: As “IN BETWEEN” introduces you as an artist, what made this record the right choice to define your first impression on listeners?
“IN BETWEEN felt like the most honest place to start because it sits right in the middle of uncertainty instead of trying to resolve it.
A lot of the music I’m drawn to doesn’t sound like someone looking back with all the answers. It sounds like they’re still inside the feeling while they’re writing it. That’s what this song felt like for me.
It’s quiet, but emotionally very direct. And I think that says more about me as an artist than trying to make a huge statement right away.”
Q: Your work highlights subtle, introspective moments rather than overt narratives. What draws you to exploring those quieter emotional spaces?
“I think the quieter moments are usually the ones that stay with me the longest.
Not necessarily the obvious, dramatic things more the moments that seem small at first, but keep replaying later for some reason.
I’m interested in the emotional shifts people don’t always talk about clearly. The moments where something changes before you really understand that it has.
That space feels more real to me than trying to force a big conclusion onto everything.”
Q: There is a strong sense of honesty and restraint in your vocal delivery. How did you approach capturing that level of vulnerability in the studio?
“A lot of it was about not over-performing the emotion.
We kept coming back to the idea that the song would feel stronger if it felt close instead of dramatic. Sometimes the quieter take carried more emotion because it sounded less controlled.
I didn’t want it to feel polished in a way that disconnected it from the meaning of the song. The goal was more about capturing a feeling honestly than trying to sound perfect.”
Q: How did your creative environment in Los Angeles shape the sound and atmosphere of this debut release?
“Los Angeles has such an interesting contrast to me. Everything moves really fast and looks very polished, but there’s also a lot happening underneath that.
I think that contrast naturally found its way into the music.
The song feels spacious and calm on the surface, but emotionally there’s a lot underneath it. Recording there definitely shaped that atmosphere.”
Q: Minimalism plays a key role in the production of “IN BETWEEN.” How do you balance simplicity with emotional impact in your music?
“I think simplicity leaves room for people to feel something themselves.
If every emotion is over-explained, there’s nowhere for the listener to enter the song personally. So we were really intentional about leaving space in the production instead of filling every moment.
Sometimes one line delivered honestly does more than adding more layers around it.”
Q: The song reflects themes of personal transition and identity. How have your own experiences informed the way you approach these concepts artistically?
“A lot of growing up feels strange because you can feel yourself changing before you fully understand who you’re becoming.
I’ve definitely experienced that, especially balancing different environments, whether that’s school, modeling, friends, music, or just being alone with my own thoughts.
Sometimes everything around you looks the same, but internally something has shifted. That’s probably the emotional space I write from most often.”
Q: As you continue developing your sound, what elements are you most committed to preserving as part of your artistic identity?
“Definitely honesty and restraint.
I never want the music to feel over-explained or emotionally forced. I’m really protective of keeping things specific and human, even if they’re quiet.
I think the songs that stay with people are usually the ones that leave a little space in them.”

Q: As a songwriter, how do you ensure your lyrics remain open enough for interpretation while still feeling deeply personal?
“I usually focus more on the feeling than the full explanation.
If I’m too direct about exactly what something means, it can stop feeling personal in an interesting way. But if the emotion underneath it is honest, people tend to connect their own experiences to it naturally.
I like when lyrics feel specific enough to be real, but open enough that someone else can still see themselves inside them.”
Q: With this being the first chapter of your journey, how would you describe the artistic direction you are building toward in future releases?
“I think I’m building toward work that feels emotionally connected, even if each song captures a different moment.
A lot of what I’m writing about revolves around identity, friendships, growing up, and the versions of yourself you move through while you’re figuring things out.
I’m less interested in making songs that sound “finished,” and more interested in documenting those shifts while they’re still happening.”
Q: Looking ahead, what do you hope listeners take away from your music as your catalog continues to grow?
“I hope the music feels honest enough that people recognize parts of themselves in it.
A lot of my songs come from thoughts that stayed with me longer than I expected them to. And I think everyone has moments like that, things they can’t fully explain, but still carry with them.
If the music does anything, I hope it makes people feel a little less alone in those quieter moments.”
As the conversation comes to an end, it becomes clear that “IN BETWEEN” is not just an introduction, but the starting point of a much larger creative and emotional journey for Ellory Grace. She describes her songwriting as a process of documenting thoughts and feelings while they are still unfolding, rather than revisiting them once they have already been fully understood. That approach allows her music to exist in a space of honesty and restraint, where emotion is not over-explained but gently observed. Looking ahead, Ellory Grace continues to explore themes of identity, self-discovery, and the quiet shifts that shape relationships and personal growth. With this debut, she establishes a clear artistic direction grounded in authenticity, inviting listeners into a world where uncertainty is not something to be resolved, but something to be felt and understood over time.
