ANDERSON, S.C. — Producer, rapper, singer, songwriter and influencer TrackhawQ Juan is breaking barriers between hip-hop, academia and athletics with a story of resilience, creativity and perseverance. Born Jajuan Blankenship in Anderson, S.C., Juan is proving that success does not have to fit into one lane.
Juan’s journey into music began unexpectedly. Already a content creator on YouTube, he made a vlog in which he tried being a rapper for a day. What started as an experiment quickly transformed into a passion. “I fell in love with the process of creating music, and being able to transform my thoughts into art,” Juan said. He soon realized he could leverage his platform to make a difference, creating music that is versatile, thoughtful and accessible to listeners of all ages.
“My journey shows that you can succeed in spaces that don’t normally intersect — hip-hop, academia and athletics,” Juan said. “I want to show people, especially the youth, that it’s okay to be yourself. My music paints pictures of success and overcoming obstacles. Listening to my music leaves people motivated and refreshed.”
Accomplishments Across Multiple Worlds
Juan’s unique perspective comes from navigating athletics, scholarship and personal storytelling:
- Rising hip-hop artist, with his debut EP “Destined” praised for lyrical depth and versatile production.
- Former Division I football player who competed at the University of South Carolina, Independence Community College, Tulsa University, Southern Illinois University Carbondale and Saginaw Valley State University.
- Featured in the Netflix docuseries Last Chance U (Independence Community College, Season 3).
- Ph.D. candidate in Communication Studies at Southern Illinois University.
- Member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., embodying values of leadership, service and brotherhood.
Overcoming Adversity
Juan’s path has not been easy. He endured two major surgeries, a devastating car accident and the loss of his younger cousin — all while pursuing both athletics and academics. For months he relied on casts, crutches and rehab just to walk again. Still, he pushed forward.
“I leaned on discipline and resilience, using the same traits that helped me on the football field,” he said. “Every obstacle became a story, and every setback became a lyric. By embracing the struggle instead of running from it, I built a foundation that powers both my academic and artistic journeys.”
Looking Ahead
Though Juan only began releasing music in 2025, his vision is clear. “In a few years I see myself as a name in the industry known for my own unique sound,” he said. “I want to tour, perform live shows and collaborate with other artists who strive to be different. More than anything, I want my music and content to grow together and inspire people.”
