Serg: From Loss to Lyrics

Music has always been close to Serg’s heart—but it wasn’t until tragedy struck that it became everything. The Atlanta-based artist first touched piano keys at age seven, experimenting casually until his younger brother Kelvin, who records as K Dank, started producing beats on a cell phone. It was a creative bond that deepened after the unexpected death of their older brother, Alamar, in December 2023—just one month before he was set to leave for Marine boot camp. “We turned to music to heal,” Serg says. That grief became fuel for 12:13, their forthcoming debut album and a genre-bending tribute to the brother who loved everything from rap to metal. It’s not just a record—it’s a lifeline.

What makes 12:13 stand out is its refusal to sit still. Serg and K Dank’s sound bounces between worlds—from the smooth edges of neo-soul to the chaos of progressive metal and the thump of trap. Their influences are just as eclectic: the dark experimentation of Tyler, the Creator, the soul of Daniel Caesar, and the heaviness of Meshuggah. But they’re not imitators—they’re translators, reshaping their pain and passion into something raw and urgent. “Music draws anyone in,” Serg says. At their first live show, a crowd of older listeners—most unfamiliar with hip-hop—responded with open arms. One woman, moved by their clarity and message, told him, “At least I could understand everything you said.”

For two independent artists, the road has been anything but smooth. Without a label, Serg and K Dank have been their own agents, publicists, and street team—cold-calling venues, hustling distribution, and learning the ins and outs of the music business from their mother, a seasoned industry vet. “The challenge is real,” Serg admits. Still, they’re building momentum. Their first music video, “Cinnabon,” shot at Total Rage ATL, is a chaotic burst of mosh pits, sweat, and joy—a window into the duo’s unfiltered creative world. It’s not polished, but it’s real, and that’s the point.

The upcoming release of 12:13 marks a turning point. Named for the time of Alamar’s passing, the album is both a memorial and a mission statement. Each track threads memory through melody and loss through lyric. And while Serg doesn’t shy away from big dreams—“The top for us is a Grammy,” he says—he’s not chasing clout. He’s chasing connections.

At its core, Serg’s vision isn’t about crossing genres—it’s about cutting through. Whether through a DM, a live show, or a single stream, he and K Dank are creating music that meets people where they are. 12:13 may be rooted in heartbreak, but it pulses with life, resilience, and hope. In a world full of noise, Serg has found his voice—and he’s just getting started.

Turn it up. This is more than music—it’s a movement.
