Jack Hoban isn’t chasing trends. He’s following tides.
With one foot on the Jersey Shore and the other in Honolulu, Hoban’s music blends the coastlines that raised him — emotionally rich, smooth, and sun-warmed. His new single, “Blue Beach,” is more than a song. It’s a soul-soaked postcard from the sea, combining silky yacht rock with breezy jazz and blues textures. Think Steely Dan meets Christopher Cross, but written on a shoreline where reflection and rhythm meet.
The idea behind Blue Beach emerged during the quiet, uncertain days of the pandemic. “Life and music are quite like the ocean,” Hoban says. “This song captures those waves of feeling, from the serene to the stormy.” That ebb and flow is audible throughout — from the lush vocal harmonies to the shimmering guitar licks and warm horn sections, each layer is placed with intention. The track was brought to life with contributions from top-tier musicians like Steve Jankowski (trumpet), Bobby Boyd and Ilya Stemkovsky (drums), Buddy Savino (bass), and John Korba and Randy Ledet (Keys) — all of whom helped bring Hoban’s vision to full tide.
But Blue Beach isn’t just technically tight — it’s emotionally resonant. A standout lyric, “Where our dreams are just a heartbeat out of reach,” floats like a distant lighthouse, guiding the listener through gentle grooves and quiet ache. It’s a line that defines the album’s heart: nostalgic, hopeful, and just a little wistful.
For Hoban, who cut his teeth playing clubs in NYC and up and down the Jersey Shore, Blue Beach represents the reward of patience and purpose. “I hope it feels like a warm breeze and a moment of escape,” he says. Judging by the early buzz and critic praise, it’s doing just that — offering listeners a much-needed exhale in a noise-heavy world.
With another track, “On The Dunes,” on the horizon and a new album brewing with Hawaiian influences, Hoban isn’t slowing down anytime soon. He’s not just writing songs — he’s sending messages in bottles, hoping they reach anyone who needs them.
“Aloha! Thanks to all who listen and all who contributed. Mahalo!” Hoban says with a smile — a fitting sign-off from an artist who knows that sometimes, the best songs are the ones that drift in when you least expect them.
