Shia LaBeouf disclosed his daily alcohol use during a probation hearing, months after a New Orleans Mardi Gras altercation led to misdemeanor battery convictions.
Shia LaBeouf says he drinks alcohol every day while serving probation stemming from his Mardi Gras bar fight in New Orleans. According to Complex, the admission appeared in a document recounting the actor’s probation status hearing on Wednesday, August 19.
The filing shows LaBeouf told the court he has been checking in with his probation officer and provided proof that he expects to finish anger management training and substance abuse treatment by next month. The actor reportedly declined mental health treatment while acknowledging that he is consuming alcohol on a daily basis.
The disclosure comes after LaBeouf pleaded guilty in June to three misdemeanor counts of simple battery connected to a February 17 confrontation at R Bar in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. Police said he punched two men and head-butted a third after becoming increasingly aggressive at the establishment.
LaBeouf received a six-month suspended sentence and two years of probation, along with requirements that include alcohol abuse rehabilitation, anger management and sensitivity training. He was also ordered to stay away from the victims and the bar, with six months of jail time possible if he fails to complete the terms of his probation.
The latest admission contrasts with comments LaBeouf made after the February arrest. In an interview with Andrew Callaghan, the actor said he did not believe he had a drinking problem and instead attributed his behavior to issues involving anger and ego.
LaBeouf’s attorney, Sarah Chervinsky, previously characterized the February incident as a “minor Mardi Gras bar tussle” and said her client wanted to take accountability for his role in what happened. LaBeouf’s next probation hearing is scheduled for September 23, though the latest court record indicates he will be unable to attend because he is shooting a film.
